Are the medium levels design with only one solution in mind?

I am a Tower Defense newbie, in fact, this is the first TD game I've played.

The easy levels were pretty easy and entertaining. They felt like there was room for various strategies and thus preplayability.

However, the medium levels felt a whole different game. To me, it was no longer a strategy game, but a puzzle game.

Worse, it was a puzzle game with seemingly only one solution per level.

Do other people find this as well? Even though you can place towers anywhere, some levels seem to be forcing you to place them in a very specific pattern either by blocking off parts of the level, or by releasing swarms in a pattern that requires you to upgrade a particular tower. The level "Y me?" especially seems to suffer from both these conditions, where towers HAVE to be placed in only one spot and HAVE to be upgraded exactly the same way, even timed exactly, for a particular wave.

But perhaps it is just me? How many different solutions can you find to the "Y me?" level? Also... writing "solutions" for a strategy game just seems wrong... that can't be only me (unless I've misunderstood the whole Tower Defense genre... which might be a possibility).

Either way, after a level has been beaten, I would like to see a custom difficulty toggle appear, so you can switch to easier/normal/harder to try different tactics for extended replayability.

I think one thing that makes

I think one thing that makes geoDefense unique is that it does offer a bit of an amalgamation of puzzle and tower defense games.  It is quite likely that geoDefense is not representative of what you consider to be A-typical tower defense -- it definately strats from the beaten path (TD pun?).

While I think the level design in the original geoDefense tried to push users in a certain direction, there were always multiple variations on winning.  Even in the original on a level as seemingly stringent and restrictive in open play as the Eye, I've seen various methods of solving it.

Personally, I'm still having fun trying to outscore myself and others in the easy levels.  Once I get into the medium stuff, I'll be sure to share if I find any variations on Y me.  Hopefully others will do the same.

Solutions

Hi! I know that many levels seem impossible and that only one solution will work, but I assure you that that is not the case. Many different solutions are possible for each level, each different based on the one solving the puzzle! Anyway, if you need to experiment with placement and things like that, try the "novice mode" (turn it on by tapping "hardcore mode" in the menu) This gives you more money, and easier creeps to help you learn where and how to place towers to use them most effectively.

Also, have you tried the original geoDefense? It's a great way to familiarize yourself with the towers and everything they do, plus it's a great game itself!

Hope this helps!
