I've been playing geoDefense and on the whole am loving it!

However, I've been getting stuck on quite a few levels. I'm normally pretty savvy at this type of game and have managed to battle my way through to "Sneaky Snake" on the medium levels. Now I am completely stuck, the furthest I've managed is round 10 out of the 12 and then they decimate me.

All my mates at work have all completed this level and said they had no problem and to be quite honest the amount of times I had to try all other levels was way more than they all did.

I was beginning to think I was just not that good. Well.... well..... well.... after some experimentation I can conclude the iPhone 4 version is much much harder than the 3GS version (and they all played through on the 3GS). Sitting a 4 and a 3GS side by side and employing exactly the same tactics on "Sneaky Snake" (3 red towers, 2 laser and a couple of greens), on the iPhone 4 we cannot get past round 5/6 but on the 3GS not a single creep gets through.

Can the developers shed some light on this? Why is it so much harder on the iPhone 4 and are there any plans to bring the versions in line? I've played sneaky snake approximately 100 times and just cannot do it! Save me!!!

Ditto

Yup. I'm noticing it too. I'm playing the iPhone 4 version and I'm normally pretty good at tower defense games like this too. I've spent hours playing a few of the Medium levels with no success. In my frustration, I've even read strategies from the internets, but the creeps keep blowing past me. I don't see much activity on these forums though, so it may be a while before we hear anything.

Update soon?

I did manage to get a hold of the developer and he says he is looking into it so hopefully we'll hear something soon.

Glad to see other people are

Glad to see other people are experiencing this issue. Interestingly the last update does seems to have made it easier, I've breezed through 4 levels that were previously "impossible" to me. Now only 4 hard levels left to go, "X Factor", "Final Push", "Twister" and "Crazy Straw". Admittedly I have not played these levels to any extent yet, with the exception of X-Factor, as I got fed up with the "impossible" ones, so don't know how difficult they are/were.

I kind of agree with you on one point

I kind of agree with you on one point - and that is the game isn't very challenging at all. The only level I had to repeat was the final boss, and even then only once . With no Endless mode, this game becomes incredibly easy way too quickly use <a href="http://googletechtalks.blogspot.com/p/iphone.html">Iphone Apps</a> once you have the basic strategies down. Doesn't mean that it isn't awesome though!!

Samhe here. This should be

Samhe here. This should be fixed asap!!! I can't go on because of that. In the internet you find solutions from 2009 but they didn't work on a iPhone 4 for me …

Thanks for your post.  I can

Thanks for your post.  I can not get past Sneaky Snake no matter what I try on my IPod Touch 4th gen.  I would love to see a solution, at this point I have tried all posted strategies for it and nothing even gets close.

I have managed to get to round 12 but then get decimated.  Can anyone do this on an IPod/IPhone 4?

Dear Critical Thought, If

Dear Critical Thought,

If you are going to align the difficulty level of the versions, please please please make the iPhone 3GS game harder, don't make the iPhone4 game easier.

I've played GD swarm (and GD) through on my iPhone4 several times, and the one thing I absolutely love about this game is that it is hard to beat, even the second and third time around.

Anything new on iPhone 4 difficulty topic?

Hello, is there anything new regarding this issue please? I love the game, bought both GeoDefense and GeoDefenseSwarm, however when my girlfriend tried to play it on her iPhone 4, she wasn't able to beat many levels. She's quite a gamer so I was surprised, tried that myself and after 100+ tries I must say that I believe some levels are definitely unbeatable on iPhone 4 (HD version). I found my old iPod (1st gen) and beat all the game (Hardcore mode on ofc), however the VERY SAME STRATEGY in same levels (medium and hard) with both devices side by side is not working and creeps just keep getting through. It's kinda gamebreaking issue, I'd say - the game is fun, but cannot be played. Please, can you look at it? Just try for yourself - Sneaky Snake is quite hard on both but can be won on nonHD version, "Knot so fast" is actually quite easy on iPod, tried like 20times already in HD and am sill failing. Thank you.

same here

I've beaten every level in hardcore mode on my IP4 except Twister and I was getting really and I mean really frustrated with that one - never could get past wave 11.

So, just to test, I've loaded the game on my wife's 3GS and lo and behold it's a completely different game - I made it to wave 13 without breaking a sweat and I believe I could beat the level if it wasn't for her broken display and me making stupid mistakes because I couldn't see the controls properly.

I've also noticed in the 3GS "version" the blaster towers cannot hurt the cyan-colored round creeps, while these are only immune to missiles in the ip4 version. Nonetheless the overall difficulty is a lot lower in 3GS and I'm thinking it's because the lasers are dealing more damage due to some sort of aliasing going on in the non-retina versions?

Either way I'd too like to hear the dev's input on this. And please if you're going to fix this, do not just make the 3GS harder - I mean what needs to be tweaked is the ip4 difficulty in the first place as some of the levels are nearly impossible and Twister is definitely impossible.

Thanks!

The most likely explanation

The most likely explanation is that something critical is frame-rate sensitive when it shouldn't be. I'll look at it.

OK thanks!   But, framarate

OK thanks!

But, framarate is one thing, but how do you explain the diffrent behavior of the blaster towers? They cannot hurt cyan creeps in 3GS (except when at lvl7), while in ip4 they hurt from lvl1?

There is no code that makes

There is no code that makes such a distinction. The little green bullets get pushed away by the pulsar creeps (the cyan ones). This part might be what is frame-rate dependent. The slower the phone, the lower the frame rate, the less frequently the check gets made, the more likely they can "slip through".

On levels where you have a lot going on, and the screen is going crazy with effects, this might also cause the same behavior.

That's what I'm guessing. The problem is, the code is currently be refactored due to changes required by new version of OpenFeint and not in a runnable state. So have to get past that first. :)

iPhone 4S experience

I originally played geoDefense on a 3GS, and could get no further than Sneaky Snake. That was last year.

Now I have a 4S, and once again I am stuck at the same level - I can't get past wave 5/6.

I can't speak directly to playing differences, since it's been a while - I'm just offering up the possibility that on the 4S at least, the difficulty level doesn't appear to be tons different than on the 3GS.
